2009 Retreat: Lake Pleasant
September 22, 2008 FOOD, FUN, AND FABULOUS FRIENDSHIPS…….That would be the words used to describe the atmosphere at St. Anthony’s on Monday September 22. St. Anthony’s youth group hosted their second annual Bar-be-que dinner for the junior high religion classes that had hot dogs, hamburgers and all the fixings. Dessert was homemade brownies, topped with
ice
cream, chocolate syrup and whipped cream donated by Mary
Lou, the parish secretary. Everyone had plenty to eat. Everyone had a great time getting re-acquainted and meeting new members of the parish youth. The youth group genuinely welcomed everyone. They were the perfect hosts. Luis, Christian and crew were head cooks. Janesta, Nicholas, Darcy, Josh, Tyler and crew set up the food and drink tables all the while mingling and visiting with the seventh and eighth grade students. The Holy Spirit of God is alive and jivin’ at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church. The youth group is definitely living out the mission of Jesus Christ: TO WELCOME ALL TO THE KINGDOM OF GOD.
September 15, 2008 The Meeting was called to order at 6:00 pm. Those in attendance were: President - Darcy F Vice President – Shane M Taylor M Nick E Janesta D Josh L Taylor L Estaban L Cheyenne H
Dan
Rinker, Youth Minister Fr. George Highberger Special Guests: Monsignor Joseph Supa and two visiting priests from Ukraine All old and new business were dispensed with in order that we could spend the evening with our guests sharing stories of our culture, language and ideas. They taught us some of their language in about 5 minutes by singing to us. Shane mastered the language very quickly. Our members asked questions about their country; their ways of life, and what it was like to live there during the Russian take-over. The Russians tried to suppress the Catholic Church so much that the people would put crosses in the fields and the Russians would take them down. The people would sneak out into the fields at night and place lighted candles where the crosses where. This continues today…..the lighting of the candles in the fields. Sometimes many thousands everyday. The priests had many questions for our members as well: They asked what it is like to be a youth in the US; what sports they participate in and enjoy; how they spend their time and how many youth go to church. After the discussion we introduced our guests to an American dinner of Western Burritos which consisted of hamburger, tomatoes, onions, cheese, sauce prepared by Betty Rinker. Our youth had fun showing the priests how to wrap the burritos and eat them. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed the evening. Dan took pictures which we will post to the site soon. The meeting ended with a silent prayer
